About The Release
Masaa (Engl.: evening) is a German-Lebanese band founded in 2011 that surprised the local scene just one year later by winning the Bremen Jazz Prize. The band's music moves between contemporary jazz, world music and pop and combines these musical elements with oriental sounds and Arabic poetry. Singer Rabih Lahoud tells stories from a distant world with his emotional singing and knows how to let the different sound worlds merge. With their own distinctive style, Masaa succeed in avoiding the usual clichés of orientalism. Instead, the four musicians can be seen creating a poetic-musical mosaic from the abundance of their personal worlds that captures the diversity of life.

Reviews | "Masaa succeeds in building a cross-cultural bridge, impressively fusing Arabic vocals with soft trumpet phrases à la Miles Davis, Far Eastern-inspired percussion beats and a gallant modern jazz piano," wrote "Jazz Podium". |
