Masaa - Afkar (2015)

On their second work "Afkar", Masaa explore even more freedom: Their sound language has emancipated itself a little further from jazz, is more sensual, more heart-bleeding, the fusion of dance and the unbound, of tradition and experiment has reached a new organic level.

About The Release

The German-Lebanese band Masaa impressed with their debut album "Freedom Dance" in 2012. The quartet around poet, composer and singer Rabih Lahoud has already been awarded the Bremen Jazz Prize for its unorthodox approach to Oriental jazz, and has convinced live audiences in Europe, Lebanon and even Africa. On their second work "Afkar", Masaa explore even more freedom: Their sound language has emancipated itself a little further from jazz, is more sensual, more heart-bleeding, the fusion of dance and the unbound, of tradition and experiment has reached a new organic level.

Lahoud's voice seems even more voluminous and expressive, the flow of improvisational ideas and thoughts - that's what the word "Afkar" stands for - leads to previously unknown shores in the interplay of the four. With their second album, Masaa celebrate the self-evidence of interculture in the middle of Europe - and conjure it up with the soulful, moving creative power of poetry and improvisation.

"... a wonderful, oriental-European border crossing." (Audio, May 2014)
